Apply yourself: Getting application-ready
April 29th, 2013 by admin.capstoneThe application period for most schools starts August 1. That date will be here before you know it! Juniors, here’s what to do this summer:
- Start your essays: NEW essay prompts have been released for both Apply Texas and Common Application. Even if you’re not planning to apply to one of the more than 500 schools that use one of these applications, you’re likely to find a topic that “clicks” for you and that you can use for other applications and scholarships.
- Finish your resume: By now, you should have started on this document. Take the time to polish it up, add any last honors, and make sure your community service component is up to date.
- Request letters of recommendation: We suggest giving your references at least three weeks to complete your letter of recommendation. Many teachers will be inundated with requests, so ask your teachers NOW if they will write the letters before school ends. Remember, many references will want to see your resume before they will write a letter – just one more incentive to complete that task first.
